Open our eyes
Scripture: Ephesians 1-4
Ephesians 1:18-20 I ask that your minds may be opened to see his light, so that you will know what is the hope to which he has called you, how rich are the wonderful blessings he promises his people, and how very great is his power at work in us who believe. This power working in us is the same as the mighty strength which he used when he raised Christ from death and seated him at his right side in the heavenly world.
I love Paul’s prayers. There are many times when I’m not sure what to pray—and I couldn’t go wrong simply praying one of Paul’s prayers.
Here, Paul prays that our minds may be opened to see God’s light and know three things.
First, I pray that you know the hope to which He has called you. Hope is a confident expectation for the future. Our hope in Christ is that He is coming again, that we will live with Him forever, that the best is yet to come, that our broken world and our broken lives will all be put right at last. In the midst of a dark and broken world, this hope sustains us.
Second, I pray that you know the riches of His promised blessings. Earlier in chapter 1, Paul says that Christ has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places. God has so much good He longs to pour out on us! I think of all the good I want for my children and grandchildren—and realize that is a meager drop in the bucket compared to the riches of good that God wants for us.
Third, I pray that you know how very great is His power at work in us. How great is it? It is the same power that raised Christ from the dead and seated Him at God’s right hand! It is the greatest power in the universe, and that power is at work in us! Imagine what God can do in you—it is beyond our imagining!
My takeaway is simple today: pray this prayer for me and everyone I know and love. How differently we would live if our eyes were opened and we knew the hope to which He called us, the riches of His promised blessings, and the greatness of His power at work in us!Live like it’s true because it is!
Prayer: Lord, I pray that you open my eyes, our eyes, to know these three things: the hope to which He called us, the riches of His promised blessings, and the greatness of His power at work in us!
