When you pray, you can.

When you pray, you can.

Scripture: Psalm 121, Mark 9-10

Mark 9: 28-29 After Jesus had gone indoors, his disciples asked him privately, “Why couldn’t we drive the spirit out?”

29 “Only prayer can drive this kind out,” answered Jesus; “nothing else can.”

Observation/application

Jesus took Peter, James and John to the mountain to pray (Luke 9:28) and as He was praying, He was transfigured before them.  When they came down from the mountain, they found the other disciples arguing with some Jewish leaders.  A man had brought his demonized son to the disciples to be delivered, but they weren’t able to do it.  Jesus freed the boy, and when they were alone, the disciples asked, “Why couldn’t we drive the spirit out?”

Jesus answered, “This kind can come out only by prayer.”

Jesus, fresh from praying on the mountain, easily cast out the spirit.  We don’t know what the other disciples were doing while Jesus was on the mountain, but it’s safe to assume they weren’t praying!

Prayer is empowering.  Prayer gives you spiritual authority.  When you pray, you can.

There are so many moments when I’m unable, when I can’t, and I wonder why.  Here is one possibility.  When I pray, I can.  When I pray, I connect with God and His power.  When I pray, I am in touch with God and hear what He wants to do.  When I pray, I am changed and empowered.

So my takeaway is to pray…more!

Prayer: Thanks for this encouraging reminder Lord…and help me to be a better pray-er!

In my prayer time lately, sometimes its a struggle to keep my mind quiet of all the daily worries that plague my mind. However I keep hearing Jesus asking me to know Him, to truly know Him, and when I focus on that kind loving voice all those other worries that the Enemy plants seem to melt away.
