God is always working
Scripture: John 5-6
John 5:16-17 So they began to persecute Jesus, because he had done this healing on a Sabbath. 17Jesus answered them, “My Father is always working, and I too must work.”
Jesus healed the man by the pool on a Sabbath, violating the “no work on the Sabbath” policy. In other places, Jesus would argue that doing good on the Sabbath is always appropriate. But the Jewish leaders disagreed and began to persecute Him. And Jesus responded:
“My Father is always working, and I too must work.”
A few verses later, Jesus said, “I am telling you the truth: the Son can do nothing on his own; he does only what he sees his Father doing. What the Father does, the Son also does.” What did Jesus see His Father doing? He was always working. So Jesus worked too…on the Sabbath, doing good.
God is always working—in every person, in every situation, seen and unseen. Jesus could see what the Father was doing and then did the same—partnered with His Father in His work. (V. 19-20) I believe that we’re called to do the same.
I love that God is always at work. He is always at work in my life, even when I can’t discern it. He is always at work in those around me. My challenge is to look for God’s work and cooperate with it—work with God.
“What is God doing in this situation? In me? In this person? And how can I partner with Him in His work today?”
That’s my take-away for today.
Prayer: Lord, You are always working. Help me to see what You are up to so I can partner with You!
