How I love Your word!
Scripture: Psalm 117, 119:81-176, 2 John, 3 John
Psalm 119:97 How I love your law. I think about it all day long.
Psalm 119 is an acrostic. There are 22 letters in the Hebrew alphabet. There are 22 sections of 8 verses each in this psalm. All 8 verses in each section begin with the same letter of the Hebrew alphabet. The first 8 verses begin with the Hebrew equivalent of “A”; the next 8 verses with “B”…and so on.
The theme of the psalm is love for God’s law, also referred to as God’s instruction, teaching, precepts, statutes, and word. The psalmist extols the virtues of God’s word and the benefits of knowing and obeying it.
In Psalm 119:97-104 (all 8 verses begin with the Hebrew letter מ Mem, our “M”), the psalmist sings of His love for God’s word and says that knowing and obeying it will make you wiser than your enemies, your teachers and even your elders! What a promise!
“How I love your law, your word. I think about it all day long.” The more I read God’s word, the more I love it. The more I dig in, the richer it becomes. I wish I could convince everyone to read it regularly. Those who do, love it more with each reading. And the love of God’s word shows in their lives. Those who love the word are more likely to live and share it.
We are wrapping up another year of reading the Bible using our Bible Reading Plan and getting ready to launch another new year of reading the Bible again. I always look forward to starting over and reading through the Bible in a new version. In 2018, I’m going to read the Christian Standard Version. I hope I can convince a lot of people to join me—and love God’s word! It’s life-changing!
Prayer: Lord, speak to me through Your word. Help me to share my love of the word with others and inspire them to love it, learn it and live it!
