Scripture: Jeremiah 16-17, Psalm 96, John 16
John 16:12-15 “I have much more to tell you, but now it would be too much for you to bear. 13When, however, the Spirit comes, who reveals the truth about God, he will lead you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own authority, but he will speak of what he hears, and will tell you of things to come. 14He will give me glory, because he will take what I say and tell it to you. 15All that my Father has is mine; that is why I said that the Spirit will take what I give him and tell it to you.
I try to imagine being one of the disciples listening to Jesus as He tells us that He is going away.
“I have much more to tell you, but now it would be too much for you to bear.”
Tell us, Lord. We want to hear more from You—whatever You want to say.
But He knows we can’t bear it. So He gives a promise. The Spirit will come and will tell us everything. He will lead us into all the truth. He will tell us everything that Jesus wants to tell us. And He will tell us right on time—when we can bear it, when we need it.
Corrie Ten Boom once told her father that she was afraid she wouldn’t be able to bear up under persecution from the Nazis. Her father asked her, “Corrie, when do I give you your ticket for the train?” Corrie answered, “When it is time to board.” Her wise father said, “In the same way, God will give you His grace when you need it—right on time.”
The Holy Spirit will tell us what Jesus wants us to know—right on time, when He knows we need it and can bear it. I can be confident that Jesus will tell me what I need on time. It’s why He sent His Spirit to be with us forever!
Prayer: Thank you Lord for sending the Spirit to be with us forever and lead us into all truth and tell us what You want us to hear—right on time.
