A prayer for revival

Scripture: Judges 1-3, 1 Corinthians 12

Judges 2:7 The people worshiped the Lord throughout Joshua’s lifetime and during the lifetimes of the elders who outlived Joshua.  They had seen all the Lord’s great works he had done for Israel.

Judges 2:10 After them another generation rose up who did not know the Lord or the works he had done for Israel.

As long as Joshua and his peers were alive, the people worshiped the Lord.  But when they passed, a generation arose that didn’t know the Lord.

God has no grandkids.  Each generation has to find and follow the Lord; they must have their own experience, their own relationship.  They can’t rely on their parents or grandparents’ faith; they have to develop their own.  The Israelites didn’t, and the chaos of Judges is the result.

As someone who lived through the Jesus people movement, I experienced a revival, a move of the Spirit that some have not.  I pray for another revival, a move of the Holy Spirit that is bigger than just a few churches.  I want my kids and grandkids to experience a generation-changing move of God!  I’m praying for it!  Every generation needs its own revival!

I am not discounting the younger generations.  I am so impressed by them.  Many of them love Jesus and are passionately following Him.  So I’m not criticizing them—only wanting more for them!

I’m doubling down on my prayers for a revival—for a fresh move of God. I read this article yesterday in Christianity Today, and I share it hoping you’ll be as challenged as I was to pray more fervently.

Prayer: Lord, send revival!  We are desperate: our nation is desperate, our world is desperate.  Send Your Spirit to lead us in prayer and in bold witness.
