A prayer for you

Scripture: Proverbs 30-31, Psalm 33, Ephesians 1

Ephesians 1:16-19 I never stop giving thanks for you as I remember you in my prayers. 17 I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, would give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him. 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened so you may know what is the hope of His calling, what is the wealth of His glorious inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the mighty working of His strength.

Observation

Paul prays for the Ephesians.  He prays that God would give them the Spirit of wisdom and revelation so they could know Him.  He prays that they would be enlightened to know three things:

1. The hope of His calling.

2. The wealth of His glorious inheritance in the saints.

3. The immeasurable greatness of His power toward us who believe.

Application

Don’t know what to pray?  You can’t go wrong with the prayers of the Bible!  In most of his letters, Paul offers beautiful prayers—pray those.  I’m praying this one today for people I know and love.

Yesterday I told Laina about a friend who doesn’t know the Lord, and what I’m praying for him.  She told me that she was praying for him too (she’s a saint!) and that she was praying that God would reveal Himself to him; that God would show up and do something in my friend’s life to get his attention.

Paul’s prayer reminds me of what Laina prayed for my friend.  God, give him Your Spirit of revelation so he can know You—reveal Yourself to him.  Open his eyes and enlighten him.

When Peter confessed that Jesus was the Christ, Jesus told him, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven.” (Matthew 16:17)  In other words, Peter didn’t figure this out on his own, and no one else convinced him; God revealed it to him!  My friend needs a revelation!

So…here is my prayer for my friend, and for all my friends whom I know and love.

Prayer: I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, would give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him. 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened so you may know what is the hope of His calling, what is the wealth of His glorious inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the mighty working of His strength.
