How badly do you want it?
Scripture: Genesis 47-48, Psalm 10, Luke 19
Luke 19:3-4 He was trying to see who Jesus was, but he was not able because of the crowd, since he was a short man. 4 So running ahead, he climbed up a sycamore tree to see Jesus, since he was about to pass that way.
Zacchaeus was one of the shortest men in town, and the most rich and the most hated because he was a tax collector. He was a traitor to his fellow Jews, collaborating with the hated Roman oppressors, and he got rich doing it. So when he tried to get a glimpse of Jesus, the townspeople closed ranks and wouldn’t let him in.
But Zacchaeus really wanted to see Jesus, so he came up with plan B. Noting where Jesus was headed, Zac ran ahead and climbed a tree. This was very undignified; no doubt others laughed at him. He didn’t care. He wanted to see Jesus and was willing to do whatever he had to.
You can be as close to Jesus as you want to be. Zac refused to let others keep him from Jesus. He refused to let the obstacles of the crowd and his short stature keep him from Jesus. He refused to let what others thought of him or said about him keep him from Jesus. He wanted to see Jesus. And he did.
You can be as close to Jesus as you want to be. How badly do you want it?
Prayer: Lord, I’m going to climb a tree today! I’m going to press past the obstacles and get to You!
