I want some of that!
Scripture: Exodus 33-34, Psalm 16, Acts 9
Exodus 33:11 The Lord spoke with Moses face to face, just as a man speaks with his friend. Then Moses would return to the camp, but his assistant, the young man Joshua son of Nun, would not leave the inside of the tent.
So much good stuff in these chapters!
I was struck by Joshua staying in the tent. He went with Moses up Mt. Sinai and saw God interact with Moses. Then he went into the tent with Moses and saw God speak to him face to face. When Moses left the tent with his face shining, Joshua stayed behind. Why?
I think Joshua was thinking, “I want some of that!” I’m guessing that Joshua wanted what Moses had; he was hungry for more of God, for a closer relationship with God. “If God shows up here to talk with Moses, I’m going to hang around and maybe He’ll talk with me!”
I want some of that too! I want to be closer to God. I want God to speak to me personally, face to face! I want to come out of His presence changed, shining!
So I need to linger. I need to wait in His presence. I need to stay in the tent after others have left. I’m busy—there is always lots to do—so it’s easy to do my PBJ time with God and hurry on. But sometimes, I just need to linger…wait…stay in the tent…
But it all starts with that desire: “I want some of that!”
Prayer: Lord, make me hungry for You…so hungry that I’ll stay in the tent a little longer to hear from You!
