Jesus is worthy!
Scripture: Revelation 5-9
Revelation 5:9-10 You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slaughtered, and you purchased people for God by your blood from every tribe and language and people and nation 10 You made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they will reign on the earth.
Revelation 5 opens with an angel asking who is worthy to open the scroll in God’s hand. No one. John weeps. Then one of the elders told him not to weep because the Lion of Judah is worthy to open the scroll. Then John saw a Lamb who had been slaughtered. When the Lamb took the scroll, worship broke out and cascaded: first, among the 24 elders and 4 creatures; then among millions of angels; finally, among every creature in the universe! “Worthy is the Lamb!”
The Lion who is a Lamb is Jesus. Jesus is worthy! Three reasons are given: Jesus is worthy because He was slaughtered (gave His life); He purchased (redeemed) people with His blood; and He made them a kingdom and priests to God.
Jesus is worthy not only to open the scroll, and so start the judgment of God and the salvation of His people—the climax of the story. He is worthy of worship—everything bows before Him. He is worthy of all power, riches, wisdom, strength, honor, glory and blessings! He is worthy of all we can give Him. And we can’t forget all He has given to us.
Jesus is worthy! He is worthy not only because of who He is, but in this passage because of what He has done: His sacrificial death to redeem and remake us. We owe Him everything!
This passage makes it so clear that Jesus deserves our all. There is no room for a half-hearted response, for lukewarm discipleship. Jesus is worthy of our best, our all!
Prayer: Jesus, you are worthy! I worship you and today I will give you my all. I love you!
