The mind of Christ

Scripture: Deuteronomy 32-34, 1 Corinthians 2

1 Corinthians 2:16 For who has known the Lord’s mind, that he may instruct Him?  But we have the mind of Christ

Paul writes about the Spirit’s role as the giver of wisdom, in contrast to the human wisdom of Corinth’s rhetoricians. The Spirit of God lives in us, and reveals God’s purposes and thoughts to us.  The Spirit is given to us so that we may understand what God has freely given to us.  The Spirit knows God’s thoughts and shares them with us.  We have the mind of Christ—that is, the Holy Spirit who shares God’s thoughts with us.

This is staggering!  I have 24-7 access to the thoughts and wisdom of God through the Spirit who lives in me!  In any situation, I can ask the Spirit for wisdom and He will give it to me (James 1:5).  And the more I am filled with the Spirit, learn to listen to the Spirit, and am led by the Spirit, the more God’s thoughts and wisdom will become the way I think.

Of course, my self is still alive and well, and can think its own thoughts.  My ways are not God’s ways; my thoughts are not God’s thoughts (Isaiah 55:8).  I still battle my selfish thoughts.  But I’m no longer alone.  The Spirit lives in me; I have the mind of Christ, and I can access God’s thoughts and wisdom any time.

Prayer: Lord, I need Your wisdom.  I want to think Your thoughts after You.  Holy Spirit, fill me, lead me, speak to me!
