Who is worthy?

Scripture: Ezekiel 12-14, Revelation 5

In Revelation 5, the angel asks, “Who is worthy to open the scroll?”  And the answer is, “No one.”  John begins to weep, but then is told, “Don’t weep.  Look, the Lion of Judah is worthy.  He is able.”  When John looked, he saw not a lion, but a lamb which had been slaughtered.  The Lamb took the scroll, and when He did, a rolling crescendo of worship began.

First the four living creatures and the 24 elders fell down before the Lamb and began to sing, “You are worthy.”

Then many angels joined in, thousands of thousands (millions) added their voices to the song, “Worthy is the Lamb.”

Then every creature in heaven and on earth added their voices, singing, “Blessing and honor and glory and power be to the one seated on the throne, and to the Lamb, forever and ever!”

Starting with 4, add 24, add millions, add everyone!  The worship grew and grew!  “You are worthy!”

This is the scene in heaven that we can join right now on earth.  We can add our voices to the growing crescendo of praise to Jesus.  I don’t want to be left out!

Jesus is worthy!  He is worthy of my attention, my affection, my allegiance, my obedience, my love, my worship.

Only He is worthy.  I’m tempted to give those things to others—other people, other things.  But only Jesus is worthy of my one and only life, and all I have to offer.

Today, I will worship Him not only with my song, but with my life.  I will live my life for Him because He alone is worthy!

Prayer: Lord, You alone are worthy of my love, my life, my all.  I give myself to You today.  Let me be a sweet song in Your ear!  You are worthy!
