Forgive anyone anything every time!

Scripture: Job 23-24, Mark 11-12

Mark 11:25 Whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father who is in heaven will also forgive you your transgressions.

Jesus makes some startling promises about prayer and faith, and follows them up with this command to forgive anyone anything every time you pray!

Whenever you stand praying: every time you pray, forgive.  Do a quick inventory: am I holding anything against anyone?  If you are, forgive!  Whenever.

Anything against anyone.  That’s pretty inclusive!  Forgive anything, large or small.  Forgive anyone, whoever they might be.  Forgive anything against anyone…whenever you pray.

So that your Father will forgive you.  Jesus appeals to our raw self-interest.  He says, “Forgive for your own sake!  Don’t make it about them—it’s about you!  You need to forgive for your own sake, so you’ll be forgiven!”  A friend recently told me, “I forgave someone and I set the prisoner free; then I discovered that the prisoner was me.”

Today, when I pray, I’ll do an inventory, and if there is anyone I need to forgive for anything, I will.

Forgive anyone anything every time!

Prayer: Lord, please show me if there is someone I need to forgive, and help me forgive from my heart.
