Scripture: Numbers 7, Psalm 23, Acts 27
Numbers 7:89 When Moses entered the tent of meeting to speak with the Lord, he heard the voice speaking to him from between the two cherubim above the atonement cover on the ark of the covenant law. In this way the Lord spoke to him.
Acts 27:23–24 Last night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve stood beside me 24 and said, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul. You must stand trial before Caesar; and God has graciously given you the lives of all who sail with you.’
Numbers 7 is a tally of the gifts for the tabernacle from the 12 tribes. The gifts are the same from each tribe—listed in total 12 times. Very repetitive and boring! Then out of the blue, verse 89: God meets Moses in the tent of meeting and speaks to him in an audible voice!
Acts 27 describes Paul’s voyage to Rome, lost at sea in a storm, and shipwrecked on Malta. In the midst of the storm, God speaks (see a theme here?) and tells Paul that he must stand before Caesar (he is not going to perish in this storm) and that God has graciously given him all the lives on board with him—276 people! They are not going to perish in the storm either.
Moses reminds us that God wants a conversational relationship with us. Every time Moses went to meet with God, the Lord spoke with him. Expect God to speak—maybe not in an audible voice (which seems to be how Moses heard Him), but in a way that you can understand. Expect God to speak.
God spoke to Paul when everything seemed lost, and reassured him that he was not going to die, nor was anyone else on board! 276 lives were spared, and many were likely saved for eternity, because Paul was on board. Who is on your ship? Who is sailing with you? Doing life with you? Ask God to give you everyone on board! Believe that God wants to use you to save everyone on your ship, everyone in your life! Just as God used Paul to save these lives, God wants to use you to influence and save everyone in your life. Start praying and listening and doing what He tells you!
Prayer: Lord, speak to me. Help me to listen and hear Your voice. And give me the lives of everyone on board!
