God’s intentions for you

Scripture: Deuteronomy 5-6, Psalm 43, Mark 14

As Moses reminded Israel of God’s laws and decrees, he also reminded them repeatedly that God was giving these for their good, and that if they obeyed, things would go well with them.  It’s a lot of verses, but it’s worth the read to see God’s intentions for you.

Deuteronomy 5:16 Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live long and that it may go well with you in the land the Lord your God is giving you.

Deuteronomy 5:29 Oh, that their hearts would be inclined to fear me and keep all my commands always, so that it might go well with them and their children forever!

Deuteronomy 5:33 Walk in obedience to all that the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess.

Deuteronomy 6:1–3 These are the commands, decrees and laws the Lord your God directed me to teach you to observe in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess, 2 so that you, your children and their children after them may fear the Lord your God as long as you live by keeping all his decrees and commands that I give you, and so that you may enjoy long life. 3 Hear, Israel, and be careful to obey so that it may go well with you and that you may increase greatly in a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the Lord, the God of your ancestors, promised you.

Deuteronomy 6:18 Do what is right and good in the Lord’s sight, so that it may go well with you and you may go in and take over the good land the Lord promised on oath to your ancestors,

Deuteronomy 6:24 The Lord commanded us to obey all these decrees and to fear the Lord our God, so that we might always prosper and be kept alive, as is the case today.

God wants things to go well with you.  He wants you to live long and prosper!  That is God’s intention for you.

God’s laws are not designed to repress you, stifle you, make you miserable or make your life hard.  To the contrary, they are designed to free you, make you happy and prosperous and long-lived!

When we obey, we are blessed; when we disobey, we do so to our own peril and harm.

When we believe someone’s intentions are good, that they want the best for us and want us to succeed, then it’s not hard to do what they say.  My motorcycle instructor gave specific instructions.  They were designed to keep me safe, happy and alive!  Believing that, I followed them!  God’s words are the same—they come from His love, His good intentions for you.

Prayer: Lord, help me to understand how much You love me and that You want the best for me, and then obey You gladly…and live long and prosper!
