Scripture: Numbers 10-11, Psalm 27, Mark 1
Mark 1:35 Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.
Jesus heals Peter’s mother-in-law, and then the whole village shows up to be healed and delivered. Jesus is up late into the night doing exhausting ministry. And yet very early the next morning, while it was still dark, He got up and went off alone to pray. Evidently, prayer was important to Jesus—so important that He was willing to sacrifice sleep. If Jesus, God’s perfect Son, felt so strongly the need to pray that He’d do this, how much more do I need to pray first!
When I read this, I immediately knew what I need to do. I need to set an alarm (something I don’t like) and get up early to pray. Make prayer my first activity each morning. Pray first! Start the day with a conversation with God. Listen and get my marching orders. Don’t get sidetracked doing other things: get up and go straight to prayer.
Prayer: Lord, I know what You want me to do. Help me do it. Meet me each morning!
