Scripture: Jeremiah 33-34, Psalm 74, 1 John 5
1 John 5:11–13 And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. 13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.
Jesus came to bring us life—eternal life, life to the full! This life is in Jesus—whoever has Jesus has life, right now! He doesn’t say you will have it when you die; he says you have it right now! John writes this so that we may know that we have eternal life—know with a clear and settled assurance—right now.
First, I want to “have Jesus” or “be in Jesus”—that’s where Life is—and I want to help others be in Jesus! This means living in daily relationship with Him.
We often say “this is the life” when we’re doing something enjoyable: sitting on a beach, eating a great meal, etc. But John points us to Jesus and says, “This is the Life.” Life is found in Jesus. I want to pursue Him more passionately than I pursue anything else because He is the Life—eternal life, life to the full. Today, I will pursue Jesus, be “in Him” and encourage others to do the same.
Second, I have confidence that I have eternal life, and I will help others to have that same confidence. So many people seem to live with insecurity toward God. They aren’t sure they have eternal life. They think that they can’t know for sure until they die. But you can know—really know for sure. If you have Jesus, you have eternal life. Right now! It’s that simple. I have Jesus, and I know that I have eternal life. I know! For sure! And I want to help others have that same certainty.
Prayer: Help me to live in You today and help others do the same. Thank you for giving us eternal life…right now!
