Two keys to success
Scripture: 2 Samuel 2, 1 Chronicles 11, Psalm 142, Matthew 14
1 Chronicles 11:9-10 David became greater and greater, for the Lord of hosts was with him. 10 Now these are the heads of the mighty men whom David had, who gave him strong support in his kingdom…
David became greater and greater for two reasons. First, the Lord was with him. Second, he had the support of a great team, his band of mighty men. Spiritual and social were both important.
Here are two keys for success for any Christian leader.
First the spiritual: you need the Lord’s presence, favor and help. God said that David was a man after His own heart. I want to be that kind of man, the kind of man the Lord would bless. The good news is that Jesus has promised to be with us. We have the guarantee of God’s presence, the gift of the Holy Spirit. However, we can grieve the Spirit or be filled with the Spirit. We can live in the Lord’s presence, or be unaware of it. While God’s presence and blessing is promised, it’s not automatic. Seek Him and be the kind of person God can bless!
Second, the social: you need a band of brothers, a team of champions to support you. I have been blessed with a great friends, a great staff, great pastors and leaders around me. I am what I am not only by God’s blessing, but by their help. No one succeeds alone. No one is great alone. It’s always a team effort. One of the best things you can do is invest in those friendships—invest in your “mighty men” (or women). And be sure to share the credit!
Prayer: Lord, thanks for being with me and for giving me a great team. I owe You and them everything!
