A legacy verse

Scripture: 2 Timothy 1-4

2 Timothy 2:2 You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others.

2 Timothy is Paul’s “swan song”—a letter written to a young protege from an older man facing death in prison.  It is filled with reminders and exhortations for the younger man on how to live for the Lord.  This verse is one of my favorites.  It is a legacy verse.

The gospel is passed on person-to-person.  Paul taught Timothy; Timothy taught other trustworthy people; they taught others.  Four generations: Paul—Timothy—trustworthy people—others.

I want to leave the same kind of legacy.  Who are the trustworthy people that I can teach who in turn can teach others?  I want to identify those people and invest heavily in them, as Paul did in Timothy, and Timothy no doubt did with others.  I want my life to count for God’s kingdom, and leave a legacy of Kingdom people behind me.

Prayer: Lord, show me who to invest in, and use me to teach them well so that they can teach others, who can teach others.  Use me to spread the gospel and equip the saints for the work of ministry.
