Embrace the opportunity
Scripture: Psalm 149, 1 Corinthians 15-16
1 Corinthians 16:9 There is a wide-open door for a great work here, although many oppose me. (NLT)
1 Corinthians 16:9 A huge door of opportunity for good work has opened up here. (There is also mushrooming opposition.). (The Message)
Paul tells the Corinthians his travel plans: he is coming to them after staying awhile longer in Ephesus, because “there is a wide-open door for a great work here.” There was also “mushrooming opposition.”
The opposition would have made a lesser man flee. But Paul was more focused on the opportunity than the opposition.
Generally, if something is worth doing, it’s hard. A friend loves to remind me, “If it were easy, everyone would do it.”
Following Jesus isn’t easy. There will always be opposition: from your own selfish human nature, from other people, and from the devil. If you’re looking for easy, this isn’t it! But it’s worth it.
Fulfilling your mission isn’t easy. There will always be opposition, just as Paul experienced. Acknowledge it—but press on and embrace the opportunity in spite of the opposition. Don’t let the opposition distract you from the opportunity.
Look for the wide-open door and walk through it!
Prayer: Lord, help me to see each opportunity you give me to share the gospel, to serve others, to make a difference, and to fulfill the mission You gave me. Help me push past the opposition and embrace the opportunity.
