Scripture: Ephesians 1-4
Ephesians 3:8 Though I am the least deserving of all God’s people, he graciously gave me the privilege of telling the Gentiles about the endless treasures available to them in Christ.
In this passage, Paul describes his understanding of the mystery of the gospel, namely that God included the Gentiles in His plan. God gave Paul “the privilege of telling the Gentiles about the endless treasures available to them in Christ.”
What are these “endless treasures” or “unsearchable riches” (ESV) or “boundless riches” (NIV) available to us in Christ? The book of Ephesians is full of them! The opening chapter says that we have been “blessed with every spiritual blessing” and lists many of them: grace and kindness, God’s love, we’re chosen, adopted as God’s children, forgiven, set free, given wisdom and understanding, hope, God’s power, et al. And that’s just the first few verses…the whole letter is jammed with “endless treasures.”
I tried to imagine Paul writing these words, and what he was feeling. He must have felt overwhelmed by the goodness of God and the grace of Jesus. Paul had a very high view of Jesus and what He offers us! Endless treasures! I was convicted that I don’t often think that way. It’s easy to take Jesus and all He does for us for granted; it’s easy to lose sight of the endless treasures and become dull or indifferent or satisfied.
Today, I want to recognize the endless treasures that are mine in Jesus, and stop along the way to marvel, wonder and give thanks!
Prayer: Open my eyes to see the endless treasures that are mine in Christ, and to live gratefully and passionately!
