It’s all God’s
Scripture: Ezekiel 15-16, Psalm 70, Revelation 6
The Lord, through Ezekiel, describes lyrically how He found Israel when she was young, rejected and alone, and how He cared for her. He made gave made her beautiful and gave her everything: beautiful clothing, jewelry of gold and silver, the finest foods, splendor, fame and beauty.
“But you thought your fame and beauty were your own…and you gave them away to idols.”
Israel took all that God had given them and used them to worship idols—including their children which they offered as sacrifices.
“What a sick heart you have, to do such things as this.”
The Lord pronounced judgement on them.
All that we have comes from God’s hand. You may object, “But I worked hard for what I have.” No doubt.
Deuteronomy 8:17–18 You may say to yourself, “My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.” 18 But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today.
Our abilities, our gifts—everything we are and have—comes from God. Therefore, it should be offered back to God as a living sacrifice, to do His will.
I said last week, “Your life is God’s gift to you. What you do with it is your gift to Him.”
Remember that all you have belongs to God, and offer it to Him today.
Prayer: Lord, keep us from the sin of smug self-sufficiency and pride that deludes us into thinking that it’s all mine. Help us to live with the awareness that all we have comes from Your hand.
