More like Jesus!

Scripture: Judges 17-18, Psalm 89, 2 Corinthians 3

2 Corinthians 3:18 So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.

Observation

This verse comes at the conclusion of Paul’s comparison of the old and new covenants.  Moses met with God and came down from the mountain with the old covenant; his face was shining from being in God’s presence, so he put a veil on.

For Paul, the veil became a metaphor for those under the old covenant being blind to the glory of Jesus, unable to understand the gospel.  The veil is removed only when one believes in Jesus.  (v. 14)

When we turn to the Lord (v. 16), the veil is removed and we see the glory of God in Christ.  And like Moses, we begin to reflect that glory as the Lord (the Spirit) makes us more and more like Jesus.  We are being transformed into His image!

Application

Romans 8:29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.

God’s destiny for us is to “conform us to the image of His Son.”  It is to “make us more and more like Him.”  It is to “change us into His glorious image.”  More like Jesus!

We should never lose sight of this goal.  God is always at work in our lives, making us more and more like Him.  We can live into our new identity as Jesus’ brothers and sisters, ones who bear His image, by consciously doing two things.

First, in every situation, ask God to help you see how He is using that to make you more like Jesus.  “What are You doing in me right now, Lord?”  That’s a great question in the middle of this crisis.  God is at work in you—how is He making you more like Jesus today?

Second, in every situation, ask God to help you know what Jesus would do.  Then do that.  This is following Jesus 101.  Do what Jesus would do.  Say what Jesus would say.  Be like Jesus.  It’s who you are!

And all of that starts by being with Jesus.  We see and reflect.  We look at Him and become like the One we look at!  Spend some time looking at Jesus today!

Prayer: Lord, help me to see and reflect You today.  Help me to be aware of how You are working in my life, and what it means to do what You would do.  Make me more like You!
