Pray Bigger Prayers!
Scripture: Ephesians 5-6, Psalm 119:1-80
Ephesians 6:18–20 Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.
19 And pray for me, too. Ask God to give me the right words so I can boldly explain God’s mysterious plan that the Good News is for Jews and Gentiles alike. 20 I am in chains now, still preaching this message as God’s ambassador. So pray that I will keep on speaking boldly for him, as I should.
Paul concludes his remarks on spiritual warfare by calling us to prayer, including praying for him—something he obviously believed made a difference.
The call to prayer is inclusive: pray at all times with all kinds of prayers for all believers everywhere! That’s Big Prayer! And of course, we’re to “pray in the Spirit,” meaning led and empowered by the Spirit (see Romans 8:26-27, 1 Corinthians 14:15-16, Jude 20).
Paul asks for prayer, not to be delivered from his chains, but that God would give him the words and boldness to share the gospel!
First, I want to up my prayers! I want to pray bigger prayers and pray them more often. I’ve rarely felt like a great pray-er. I need to give more attention to this part of my PBJ.
Second, I want to emulate Paul whose prayers were to be more bold and effective in his ministry. He is Jesus-centered and kingdom-minded, not selfish. So many of my prayers are small and selfish—me-centered not Jesus-centered.
Prayer: Lord, help me pray in the Spirit at all times for all people. Help me to be a better pray-er who prays Big Prayers.
