Spark our enthusiasm!

Scripture: Haggai 1-2, Psalm 129, Luke 10

Haggai 1:14 So the Lord sparked the enthusiasm of Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the enthusiasm of Jeshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the enthusiasm of the whole remnant of God’s people. They began to work on the house of their God, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies,

Observation

The exiles who had returned to Judah had built their homes but left the Temple in ruins.  The Lord gave Haggai a message, telling them that their daily work was being frustrated because of this failure, and calling them to begin the work on the Temple.  In response to this prophecy, “the Lord sparked the enthusiasm” (NIV—“stirred up the spirit”) of the leaders and the people and they went to work.

Application

This stood out to me since we’re living in the time of Covid complacency.  Many seem to be struggling with apathy, especially spiritually since we’re removed from some of our normal rhythms.  I know it’s helped me to get back to weekend services at church—even if it’s only a couple hundred people.  It’s good to restore that weekend rhythm.

It’s also helped me to reconnect with people personally.  I was at a meeting on Thursday, and people said things that stirred up my spirit.

I’m praying that God will give Pastor Michael, me and other speakers a word from the Lord that He can use to stir up the spirits of our people, to spark enthusiasm for the mission of Jesus.  I’m praying for revival!

Prayer: Lord, stir up the spirits of our people—in our church and other churches in our community, our nation and our world.  Spark fresh enthusiasm for the work of Jesus in our hearts!
