It is good

Scripture: Jeremiah 15-16, Psalm 92, Revelation 11

Psalm 92:1–2

1 It is good to praise the Lord

and make music to your name, O Most High,

2 proclaiming your love in the morning

and your faithfulness at night,

Psalm 92:12–15

12 The righteous will flourish like a palm tree,

they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon;

13 planted in the house of the Lord,

they will flourish in the courts of our God.

14 They will still bear fruit in old age,

they will stay fresh and green,

15 proclaiming, “The Lord is upright;

he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him.”

Observation/Application

First: It is good to praise the Lord, to proclaim His love in the morning and His faithfulness at night!  In other words, it’s good to praise the Lord all day long!

Psalm 34:1 I will extol the Lord at all times; his praise will always be on my lips.

James 3:9–10 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. 10 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be.

Recently I was playing golf with a young pastor who hit a bad shot.  Rather than grumbling, he smiled and said, “He is faithful.”  So true.  God is faithful…all the time!

I want to praise more and “curse” (speak negatively) less.  I want His praise to continually be on my lips!  That’s good!

Second: The psalmist describes the fate of the wicked and the righteous.  The wicked will perish, the righteous will flourish (sprout, bud, blossom, grow).  He says that even in our old age we’ll still be growing, bearing fruit, staying fresh and green, and proclaiming the Lord’s praise.  I see so many older people getting grumpy—I don’t want to go there.  I want to flourish and bear fruit and praise Him!

Prayer: Lord, let your praise always be on my lips.
