Bless the Lord!

Scripture: Isaiah 9-10, Psalm 103, Hebrews 5

Psalm 103:11–17

11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth,

so great is his faithful love

toward those who fear him.

12 As far as the east is from the west,

so far has he removed

our transgressions from us.

13 As a father has compassion on his children,

so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him.

14 For he knows what we are made of,

remembering that we are dust.

15 As for man, his days are like grass—

he blooms like a flower of the field;

16 when the wind passes over it, it vanishes,

and its place is no longer known.

17 But from eternity to eternity

the Lord’s faithful love is toward those who fear him,

and his righteousness toward the grandchildren

Psalm 103 is one of my favorites. We’re called to “bless the Lord”—praise the Lord—for all the benefits He bestows on us: He forgives all our sin, heals all our diseases, redeems our life and crowns us with love and compassion, satisfies us with good things and renews our youth! V. 1-5

Then the psalmist reflects on the nature of God in a series of comparisons.

  • As high as the heavens are above the earth—forever—so great is His faithful love toward us. Loved!
  • As far as the east is from the west—forever—so far has he removed our sin from us. Forgiven!
  • As a father has compassion on his children—always—so the Lord has compassion on us. (He knows what we are made of.) Understood!
  • As for man, our days are numbered. We are like grass—here today, gone tomorrow and forgotten. But God is forever. From eternity to eternity the Lord’s love and righteousness is toward those who fear him and their grandchildren. God’s love for us never ends—from eternity to eternity! Forever!

Bless the Lord!

All day today I want to bless the Lord, to give Him praise and thanks.

On my recent 7 day motorcycle adventure, I spent a great deal of time on my bike singing and praying and blessing the Lord. I reflected on my life and God’s goodness to me—I remembered all His benefits to me—and I blessed the Lord. The theme for my ride—and my life—was “Grateful.” It was moving, a spiritual experience.

That’s how I want to live today: grateful and blessing the Lord!

Prayer: Lord, thank You for who You are and Your goodness to me—Your love, faithfulness, forgiveness, healing, help and goodness. Today, I will bless You and live gratefully.
