Boast in the Lord
Scripture: Deuteronomy 25-26, Romans 3
Romans 3:27 Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? By one of works? No, on the contrary, by a law of faith.
Observation
Romans 3:21-26 are Paul’s summary of the gospel of salvation by faith through grace. On our own, we are not righteous; we are sinners who fall short of the glory of God. On our own, we are never good enough.
So what we could never do on our own, God did for us. He justified us (made us righteous) by His grace. “Where then is boasting?” Certainly not in our efforts. If we are going to boast, it is not in our goodness, but His, not in our accomplishments, but His.
1 Corinthians 1:30–31 It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. 31 Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.”
Application
There is no place for smug self-righteousness or spiritual pride among Christians. We know that it is “because of Him” that we are in Christ, and that He is our righteousness, so we boast in Jesus alone.
Stay humble, stay grateful, stay close…and stay proud of Jesus!
Prayer: Thanks for the simple reminder today of what You have done for us and where our boasting belongs.
