To Him be the glory forever

Scripture: Hosea 4-5, Proverbs 28, Romans 11

Romans 11:33–36

33 Oh, the depth of the riches

and the wisdom and the knowledge of God!

How unsearchable his judgments

and untraceable his ways!

34 For who has known the mind of the Lord?

Or who has been his counselor?

35 And who has ever given to God,

that he should be repaid?

36 For from him and through him

and to him are all things.

To him be the glory forever. Amen.

Observation

After discussing the mysteries of God’s sovereignty, the apostle Paul finishes by breaking out in a song of praise in v. 33-36. In the final verse, he makes one of the most grand and sweeping statements in Scripture.

“For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory forever. Amen.”

All things are from Him. He is the Creator, the Source, the Beginning of everything.

All things exist through Him. He is the Sustainer of everything.

All things are to Him. He is the End, the Purpose, the Reason for everything. All things are intended for Him.

Application

It’s so easy to get swept up in the details of our lives and lose sight of the Big Truths. We are from God, exist through Him, and live to Him. We are His beginning to end and everything in between.

This changes everything. It changes the purpose of my life. It changes the perspective I live with. It brings peace and confidence. It disturbs my status quo. It calls me to worship.

This verse was most likely a song and it has inspired many songs through the centuries. Here are three contemporary “covers” of Paul’s song of worship.

  • Romans 11 (Doxology) by Andrew Peterson
  • Forever and ever Amen by Phil Wickham and Maverick City Gospel Choir
  • To You be the Glory, by Matt Maher and Kari Jobe

Today, I’m going to memorize and repeat this verse and let it change me. And I’m going to worship Him.

Prayer: For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever! Amen.
