A prayer

Scripture: Exodus 35-36, Psalm 19, Acts 19

Psalm 19:14 May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.

Observation

This psalm celebrates God’s creation and God’s word.

God’s creation reveals his glory. We see it and should cry, “Author! Author!” Creation should inspire a sense of awe and wonder of the Creator.

God’s word is celebrated in couplets that describe it (perfect, reliable, fair, pure, etc) and it’s effects (preserving our life, imparting wisdom, making one joyful, etc).

The psalm concludes with this beautiful prayer that is worth memorizing and repeating every day.

Application

When I was in college, Dr. Song Nai Rhee began every class with this prayer. I can hear him now: “May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord my rock and my redeemer.”

I can still say this prayer from memory because of hearing it over and over all those years ago.

It is a prayer that is especially helpful when my words and thoughts are tortured by negative emotions. It helps me release those thoughts and brings peace.

This is my prayer today:

Prayer: May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.
