Full on for Jesus

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 15

1 Corinthians 15:9–10 For I am the least of the apostles, unworthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me has not been in vain. In fact, I worked harder than all of them—yet not I, but the grace of God with me.

This chapter is Paul’s defense of the resurrection of the body, both Jesus’ resurrection as the core of the gospel, and ours as a result. He lists those who saw the resurrected Jesus, concluding with himself, and these remarks about himself in v. 9-10.

Paul considered himself the least of the apostles because he persecuted the church—in fact, he was the Osama bin Laden of the early church period—the most unlikely convert of his age. No wonder he was amazed by the grace of God. “By the grace of God I am what I am.” That he was an apostle of Jesus was pure grace—all God’s doing.

And that grace was not in vain—not without effect or results. Paul became the most prolific church planter of his era, not to mention the author of a substantial part of the NT.

That grace motivated Paul to “work harder than all of them.” The grace that saved and called Paul also energized and motivated him to work all out for the gospel. Full on for Jesus!

Like Paul, I was an unlikely convert and quickly threw myself into spreading the gospel (that’s where the similarities end). God’s grace to me was not in vain, not without effect or results. I want the same to be true now. I want to continue to the end of my life being amazed at the grace of God that saved me, called me and empowered me. By the grace of God, I am what I am. I don’t ever want to forget that; I want to stay energized and motivated by that grace to “work harder than all of them” for Jesus and the gospel. Full on for Jesus!

Prayer: Lord, I love You and I’m so grateful that You saved me and gave me this abundant life I’m living. Let Your grace energize and motivate me so that every day I live full on for Jesus—working harder than all of them!
