“I’m with you all the way!”
Scripture: 1 Samuel 13-14, Psalm 54, Mark 7
1 Samuel 14:7 His armor bearer said to him, “Do everything that is on your mind. Do as you’re inclined. I’m with you all the way!”
Observation
Jonathan’s armor bearer is unnamed but famous for his loyalty. Jonathan suggests engaging an enemy that outnumbered them. His AB responds with unflinching support: “Do everything on your heart. I’m with you all they way!”
Good leadership is a team sport, not solo. Every good leader needs and has armor bearers—men and women who are with him/her heart and soul. These people are to be treasured!
Application
Last night at church we gave Dave and Annie Compogno a much deserved standing ovation for their years of sacrifice and service at Life Center. They have been an AB couple for me through most of the past 40 years.
Rick and Janine Noll, Bill and Penny Kafflen, Paul and Amy Miller—all AB’s who have been with me heart and soul for 40+ years. I couldn’t have done what I did without them; Life Center wouldn’t be what it is without them.
All of these couples (and many others) made significant sacrifices to serve Jesus, our church and me. I owe them so much and feel such deep gratitude for them.
Of course, my #1 AB is and always has been Laina. Without her, I’d be nowhere!
I’ve gotten to be an AB for others along the way as well, and find myself in that role to Michael and a couple others. I want to be a good one!
I’m with you all the way! Who can I say that to today?
Prayer: Lord, I love You. I am so grateful for the “armor bearers” You have placed in my life who supported, encouraged, helped and inspired me. Make me a good one too!
