Listen to Jesus and do what he says
Scripture: Matthew 28
Matthew 28:18–20 Then Jesus came up and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Observation
The Great Commission is our marching orders. Jesus sent his disciples and us to make disciples of all people. How do we do that? By baptizing them and teaching them to obey everything Jesus said.
Last night, I had the privilege of speaking with a men’s group at Turning Point Church. I told them that a simple definition of a disciple is one who listens to Jesus and does what he says.
That is evident in this passage. We make disciples by teaching them to obey Jesus—to listen to Jesus and do what he says.
A few days ago when I was praying about some difficult interactions, the Lord reminded me of two simple things. First, listen to Jesus and do what he says. Second, love people like Jesus does. Can’t go wrong.
Application
First, be a disciple yourself. Listen to Jesus and do what he says.
Second, make disciples by teaching them to do the same. Listen to Jesus and do what he says.
WWJD—what would Jesus do? For some people this seems cliched. But it’s still true, and his disciples take it seriously.
Listen to Jesus and do what he says.
Prayer: Lord, I love you and I want to listen to you and do what you say today and every day. Help me not react from my emotions, but obey from my relationship with you.
