Cry out!
Scripture: Exodus 1-2, Acts 2
Exodus 2:23–25 During those many days the king of Egypt died, and the people of Israel groaned because of their slavery and cried out for help. Their cry for rescue from slavery came up to God. 24 And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. 25 God saw the people of Israel—and God knew.
Observation
When the Israelites groaned and cried out for help, God heard, God remembered, God saw and God knew (or “was concerned” or “knew it was time to act”). The author’s repeated use of “God” alerts us that God is about to act in a big way—and He does.
That big action—delivering Israel from bondage, making them a nation and taking them to the promised land—was precipitated by their cry for help.
When we work, we work; when we pray, God works.
Application
I can think of several hard things where we need God to act, and today, I’m lifting up my prayer—my heart’s cry—for God’s intervention. I’m crying out to God, trusting that God will hear, God will remember, God will see and God will know it’s time to act!
Prayer: Lord, You know the things I’m thinking of—some global in nature, some personal. I cry out to You! Please act! Save us!
