Today we worshiped and preached at the Women’s Conference in Suva held at Pastor Richard’s. The church is located above his personal home and provides wonderful views of Suva, Fiji.
Danielle opened the service in prayer and a reading of Psalm 121:
I lift my eyes to the mountains – where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip – he who watches over you will not slumber; Indeed, he who watches over Israel with neither slumber or sleep. The Lord watches over you – the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, not the moon by night. The Lord will you keep you from all harm – he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over you coming and going both now and forevermore!
The team then brought the Word. This was our second Women’s Conference, something that was in the planning for about 2 years. We had the same format as our conference last week, but this one was uniquely different. And, why not! We have all grown over the past many days, feeling more comfortable with one another and with the messages we have to share.
To explain a little more, hearing testimonies for a 2nd or 3rd time on this trip is like when you read the bible and a verse you’ve read before pops out and speaks to you. Our messages, though the same as last week, were infused with the growth the team is experiencing. For me, I received a new gift from each speaker and know the other women did as well.
Then, there is the children’s ministry~. Jake and Sam provided ministry for the little ones while “us girls” ministered to the women. There is a fun thing here called sharing “Items”. It’s like show and tell or sharing a talent. Jake, Sam and all of the kids worked on an Item to share with the women. It was a choreographed dance to the song Unbelievable! Everyone loved it and the kids were so excited to get on stage and share! What a gift!
We were given opportunity to pray for the women in attendance on an individual basis. I do believe that each women received a prayer and blessing from the team!
Of course, you can’t leave a meeting without receiving tea, coffee and snacks. The Fijians take good care to show their gratitude and to extend themselves back to us. Chocolate filled Oreos and coffee today! Yum!
We returned to our hotel to rest up a bit – the day was not over. We also had a Crusade in the evening. These might be my favorite outreach opportunities! Tonight’s was especially fun because there were so many people who attended – both Fijian and Hindu.
The worship portion is so fun and LOUD and lasted about an hour. Everyone lifts their voices and I am sure God heard us sing his praises.
Angela and Brandy shared their testimonies. Pastor David shared from Mark 10.46 the story of Bartimaeus, the blind mind who is healed because of his faith. If you have never heard Pastor David speak, you must put this on your bucket list. Wow! Powerful, animated and gifted to say the least.
Items was a huge success again. Two Fijian men got up front and danced a couple of songs to the delight of the crowd. Think western line dancing with an island flair to it.
Not to be outdone, Robin and Sam led the children in the dance they learned earlier in the day. This brought huge smiles to everyone’s faces, including the children who loved to dance and share. And of course, Robin and Sam we’re having just as much fun.
Friends, this is how a 3 hour service is done and everyone stays awake: energetic worship, a powerful message, dance . . .and, of course, food. About 9:45 the church was served a classic dish of Palou. This is rice and chicken and is simply delicious. They literally served the entire church who eagerly received.
Of course, no evening is complete without tea and treats too. We have been spoiled by the Fijian hospitality. . .and, have never gone hungry.
In closing, the Fijians can throw a 3-hour service in style. Music glorifying God, Testimonies, The Word, Prayer, Dance, Food and Fellowship.
We all went off to bed to rest for Sunday services – 2 more outreach opportunities for us to share in! PREACH!
